Dear Sir/Madam,
This is Ashutosh from Pune. One of the school in Pune had sent a circular in Dec 2008 for the fee rise for the years 2009-10 onwards. They are now interpreting that as per GR they can increase fees for 2009-10, 2010-11 , as the GR in Marathi translated to English means that the fees decided in 2008-09 should be taken till the high court comes with a dfinal decision.
I checked the GR in Marathi it seems to me that the wording is a little tricky and causing confusion.
Can you please help me in this matter.
Regards,
Ashutosh

From last year the fees are increased twice and now they r charging around 1.15 lacs for VI std. for CIE and not only this but this year they have changed their terms to April-March so parents r forced to pay April'11 and May '11 fees again this year. Next thing so in spite of taking so much huge fees for activities etc. they r asking for 800/- to 1000/- for material charges for different activities which will be held this year. So what can we do for this now?............................................

School - Rosary Education Group, Rosary Pre-Primary school, Camp, Pune 411001.
Rosary School in Pune have hiked the fees from this year to almost double. Rosary School is an unaided school.

Fee Structure for Junior KG 2010-11 -
Tution Fee - Monthly - Rs. 1300 (15600 per year)
Activity Fee - yearly - Rs. 1200 (1200)
Development Charges - Quarterly - Rs. 300 (1200)
Term Fee - Quarterly - Rs. 475 (1900)
I.T. Fee - Half Yearly - Rs. 550 (1100)

Fee Structure for Nursory 2009-10 -
Tution Fee - Monthly - Rs. 975
Term Fee - Half Yearly - Rs. 475
I.T. Fee - Half Yearly - Rs. 550

My daughter was in Nursory last year and she is now in Junior KG. The fees difference is around more than Rs.7000 in a year!

In addition to these, School dress has to be bought compulsorily from School Vendor and they have charged Rs.1200 for dress.
Books have to be purchased from the School only. They have charged Rs. 2200 for the books.
Also, as per school notice, Going on Picnics, participating in stage activities is compulsory (at our cost).

Other Complaints -
1. School does not tell us progress of our kids. Teachers are not allowed to talk to the parents.
2. There are 10 divisions in Junior KG. But not as may classes. Due to this, two divisions are made to sit in one class. That is 60+ 60=120
students in one Class! And 4 to 5 teachers teaching these students at a time! Total Chaos!
3. Due to lack of space, classes are held in the open on the ground, on open stage and also on the terrace!
4. As compared to the number of students, Number of tiolets is very less. And the ones that they have are filthy and stinky and un-hygienic.
5. The classes do not have proper ventilation.
6. There is no proper ground for the students to play in the recess. Most of them stand and eat their tiffins due to lack of space.
7. The management and Head mistress and not at all approachable
8. There is no proper parking space for the school and there is always traffic jams outside the school when the students leave.
9. The school has not at all consulted the parents before increasing the fees.
10. There is no Parent Teacher association in the school.

I STAY IN DAHANU AND I CHILDREN STUDY IN ST MARYS HIGH SCHOOL.YESTERDAY I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM THE PRINCIPAL OF SCHOOL REGARDING FORMING PTA.BUT THEY HAVE ALREADY HIKED THE FEES BY 15%.SO KINDLY ADVICE

I want to comment little differently. You have mentioned a lot about rights of parents, Fee structure, Commercialization of education, etc., but Nothing is mentioned about Teachers Rights, especially those who are teaching in private unaided schools. They have been paid very less as compared to Goverment Teachers, who do not teach at all.Private teachers salary structures should also be decided so that they can deliver their job effectively, with interest.
Secondly, Schools and Colleges run by politicians are more responsible for commercialization of education.
Waiting for your reply.

My daughter's school accepts fees in 3 installments for the whole year
4 months at a time
But from August onwards they are charging the late fee as much as Rs. 10/- per day.
they sent us the invoice for the months of August to November, and last date mentioned as 30th August, and if anybody who pays fees after 30th August, will be charged Rs. 10/- per day, i.e. Rs. 300/- per month.

This late fees is exorbitantly high.

I request this forum to please help me to resolve this late fee charges.

My daughters school name is - 'Ryan International School' @ Kharghar, Navi Mumbai.

Please reply back asap.

I am a NRI living in Mumbai for the last five years. I have three children, of which two go to Ecole Mondiale World School, Juhu. We have been paying fees of Rs 10 lacs per child each year. These fees are considerably higher than other schools I know in Mumbai, however the school is well structured and provides good facilities for the children. Also as an Ex pat, the IB curriculum educates my children in a style that they are used to. There are issues with the school and has scope for improvement, but which school does not have issues. The children were happy and are learning and developing well and as a parent you would consider the money well spent.
At Ecole Mondiale the fees are to be paid for the year and for reasons that were outside of my control, the fees for the school were paid 18 days after the due date. For this late payment, we were charged Rs 10 lacs extra above the normal fees. It was the way in which they did it, left me in a position where I had no choice to pay them.
I raised this with the Headmaster, who had said that this level of late fee is the school policy and is clearly stated in “black and white”. I had written to school, requesting a copy of their policies and their procedures for “expelling children from the school”. I discover that there is no written policy on late fees. Also that in order to expel a child from the school, the parents and the teachers need to meet to discuss the issue and the decision to expel a child is made by the Headmaster.
In a meeting with the Headmaster, the following points were raised:
• On a Rs 20 lac invoice, I have been charged a late fee of Rs 10 lacs. This level of late fee is inappropriate and is not stated in any documents issued by the school.
• Payment was made 18 days late.
• After rejection of payment, we received no notification that the children had been expelled from the school. Even though we were out of the country, they have all our contact details and could have notified us by e mail.
• There is no written policy that the procedure for late payment if re-registration.
All of the above points were accepted and I was told that they would be expressed to the Trustees of the school. These points were supposed to be expressed in writing and I would receive a response. To date I have not received a copy of the communication to the Trustees and the Trustees have not responded to my issue. I have tried to meet with the Chairman of Trustees, Dr Sadar and he has refused to meet me to discuss this matter.
It is absolutely clear that this level of charging is wrong and the way that I have been treated as a parent is wrong. I am so glad that I have finally found a Forum that is willing to listen to my complaint, as I have achieved nothing through the school.

This is also to bring to the notice of wider forum of fees hike done in the higher secondary section i.e. XIth and XIIth both of which are mis called as Junior college and the fee hike has been implemented as per the latest judgement. Adding salt to injury is the attitude of the school management and demanding payment only through Demand drafts. This is the case in point of Thakur institutes at Kandivali(E). The bank also fleeces the customers i.e. the parents and levy service and what not charges on it. A HDFC bank branch is located just near the main gate of the institute. On an initial payment of Rs. 13,120/- service charge of Rs. 83/=was collected by the bank. For about five thousand students the bank is coolly pocketing Rs. Four lakhs without any pain and may be passing on a commission to their principal client i.e. Thakur and not the parents !! Don't you feel this type of monopolistic practice should is nothing but daylight robbery !!

Schools should have some legal binding on their fee structure and should increase fee genuinely. Running schools should not become pure business for earning money. We understand that no one is doing it for charity but terms and conditions should be set to all the school. This may reduce unnecessary hikes.

THIS IS IN REGARDS WITH OUR LADY OF LOURDES SCHOOL IN KALYAN WEST.
THE SCHOOL HAD CALLED A PARENTS MEET TO SAY THAT THE SCHOOL GOT A B GRADE AS THE SCHOOL DOES NOT HAVE 3 STAIRCASE. AND THAT THEY NEED FUNDS TO DEMOLISH A FEW CLASS AND BUILD A STAIRCASE. MY CHILD STUDIES IN THE 2ND STANDARD AND SHE HAS BEEN TOLD BY HER TEACHER " YOUR SCHOOL GIVES YOU SO MUCH OF GOOD EDUCATION, GOOD TEACHERS, GOOD AUDIO VIDEO AND LOTS OF GOOD THINGS, SO YOU ALL NEED TO GIVE RS 100 TO THE SCHOOL TO BUILD THE STAIRS AND THE CLASSROOMS, IF YOU DONT YOUR NAME WILL BE REMOVED FROM THE SCHOOL". I CONFIRMED THE SAME WITH OTHER CHILDREN WHO ALSO SAID THE SAME.
JUST A YEAR AND A HALF BACK THE SCHOOL HAD COLLECTED SIMILAR FUNDS BY FORCING CHILDREN TO SELL LUCKY DRAW COUPONS, FUN FAIRS AND CULTURAL PROGRAMS. AND WITH THE MONEY COLLECTED THE SCHOOL BUILD A CHURCH AND A FEW CLASSROOMS FOR THE JUNIOR COLLEGE.
THE SCHOOL ALSO CHARGES A FEE OF 450 PER MONTH AS TUTION FEES FROM EVERY CHILD.

KINDY ADVISE WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE

THANKS

Every half year this reputed school is increasing fees by 200 rupees, and it seems nobody is complaining.
We took admission in 2008-09, when the fee was 1100, then in 2009-2010 feeongoing is 1600, now in 2011 for new academic year they have already put notice of fee hike to 1800.
Apart from this they have the monopoly of buying unifor from only certain shopkeeper, shoes from certain shopkeeper and the quality is pathetic.

In addition the fee rise has not led to better education facilities, basic hygiene functions liek toilets are worse and children cannot even walk in to wash hands. Then what does this fee hike signify.
Each class is filled ti the largest capacity averaging about 75 students per teacher upto Std IV.

I would appeal to this forum to voice this concer to school management and justify the hike in fees and more transparency and efficiency. It seems school management is thinking they are un-questionable.

Thanks

Well, we all are aware of the fact that schools are increasing their fees on the drop of the hat. But, have you heard that any school charge differential fee for the same standard, same system. To add to it the parents are not even informed of the fact that they are paying differential fees. Isn't this day light robbery.
I have been bold enough to ask the Principal of the school for the difference in the fee but I have yet to hear a reply- it's only been more than a year.
The fact that as parents we donot have a choice of schools we are robbed and yet we are far from making a noise.
The school I am talking about is the well known school in Santacruz providing International education.

my son is studing in st.john's universal school at goregaon(w), mumbai -62.Previously the school used to charge stationary in the fee slip itself and the parents were paying it. But for the last 2 years the school has increased the fee also and stationary has been removed from the fee slip. they now ask the parents to pay cash for it and there is no receipt given. They charge between 4500/- to 6500/- for various standards.Every year compulsorily they give school bags whether it is torn or not.Unnecessarily paints and brushes are given which are of no use to students. For shoe and uniform also the shop is fixed. This year i hav not taken books from school as i got it from my nephew. But school is harassing my son daily to buy new bag which is presently not reqd at all as his bag is quite new.Every year they change the colour of the bag and insist on buying it.They also add next year's half syllabus in current year's syllabus and increase the burden on students. If FORUM can do anything about it please inform. Thanx.

So what can we do for this now?

My daughter did not get admission in the nursery class because my wife and myself are not double graduate but only B.Com. Even though telling politely to the principal that as Per RTE Act my child should get the admission the principal shouted at me saying you are threatening me and took my name and registration form no and told me i will see to it your daughter will not get admission in the school. So i think RTE all looks good on paper but school will never follow them as they have tons of rupees to fight against you and they will not like parents telling them we will use RTE act against school. It is really a big shame in India as schools teaches us to fight for one's Right and when used against them they give us threats.

Robbery by schools are not done under cover these days. If you look at websites of schools most of them publish their fee structure; it is a norm to charge development fees (at the time of admission) and other fees (an yearly charge) for stationary and other items which are redundant and not useable. This is a complusory component of the fee structure. A break-up of this amount is also not provided by the school administration.

While some rob you openly others divert school fees into other accounts by asking parents to pay two different cheques. Any educated person knows that fee payment should not be done at the same time in different names yet more than 100's of parents do it regularly as the option of not doing it is not having a place for your child to go. Podar International School at Santacruz for its afternoon batch asks parents to pay the fees in two different cheques, one written to Podar School and the other written out to Mindtools. On asking for clarification you don't even get one. The cheques are encashed on different dates too. How can institutions which preach Gandhiji to be their first promoters do acts such as this .... its unfathomable.

my daughter has recently been admitted to MGM Junior College, Nerul for 11 standard in science faculty. The administration of the college informed me that it was an unaided school. I would like to seek information on whether the education for my daughter is available for free as we belong to Scheduled Caste.
